Prelude to #Jan25


I believe the Jan25 revolution didn't just start on that day with a Facebook event like some people jokingly say. Jan25 was an accumulation of many years and many factors, quickly accelerating in the last few months. Some of these factors could be El-Baradei's campaign for change, the murder of Khaled Said by police, and the ruling regime's own growing arrogance and corruption. I tried to document this by going back and making a compilation of all the postings on my Facebook profile throughout the past two years. The posting activity was rather slow at first, but it really took off after Khaled Said's murder, nearly 9 months before the date of this post. Below are all the links and their titles arranged chronologically. This is not a complete compilation of course, but it gives a picture how things were, leading up to the revolution.

أنا أعتقد أن ثورة ٢٥ يناير لم تكن وليدة هذا اليوم فقط، ولكنها كانت تراكم لأحداث وعوامل كثيرة، أخذت في التسارع في الشهور القليلة الماضية. قد يكون من هذه العوامل حملة الدكتور البرادعي للتغيير، ومقتل خالد سعيد على يد الشرطة، والغرور والفساد المتزايد للنظام الحاكم نفسه. حاولت أن أوثق كل هذا بأن عدت وجمعت كل المشاركات ذات الصلة على صفحة الفيسبوك الخاصة بي خلال السنتين الماضيتين. لاحظت أن النشاط كان قليلا في البداية ولكنه زاد بشكل ملحوظ بعد مقتل خالد سعيد، فى الـ٩ شهور التى سبقت هذه التدوينة. بالأسفل جميع الوصلات وعناوينها حسب الترتيب الوقتي. هذا التجميع ليس شامل بالطبع ولكنه يشكل صورة للوضع قبل الثورة.
